Federal Tax Clinic - Summer Opportunities

The Federal Tax Clinic at the University of Washington School of Law is seeking three full-time work-study eligible law students to practice law in the clinic this summer. You will gain experience working as an advocate within the administrative law arena of the IRS. Previous summer student-attorneys have built on this experience to gain employment after law school with law firms, accounting firms, judicial clerkships and fellowships. If you are interested, please contact John Clynch, Managing Director of the Federal Tax Clinic, at 206-685-6805.

Internship Position - Due Date

The application due date for the internship position that I recently posted is February 15. That being said, you will want to get your application in as soon as possible.

Paid Internship Positions

I received an email with the following message:

I write to offer paid internships to UW Law School LLM Tax students to serve as Citizen Team Coordinators for an on line and in person democracy project that I am launching entitled: “Partners in Democracy: Citizen Teams Build American Dreams – Developing a Comprehensive Plan to Resolve Our Debt, Deficit, and Restore Prosperity. Public Policy, Business Investment, and the Arts in Service to the Nation!” The website in progress is www.citizenteams.org. The introductory video is at http://youtu.be/6YmMhmn0tW4.

While we encourage all interested students to become involved with the project in some way, there is budget now for 1 or 2 student Citizen Team Coordinator positions, as indicated below.

The student applicants must be enrolled “full time” at an accredited four year college or university in Seattle and be majoring in the subject they wish to coordinate. The role of the student Citizen Team Coordinators is to “coordinate” the team of citizens that will actually do the work. Successful applicants must have a proven track record of coordinating and leading the work of other people. The positions are as follows:

Tax Policy – to coordinate Citizen Team analysis and revision of U. S. Tax Code – 2 LLM in Tax Candidates

The program includes “performance” and students must be comfortable doing simple choreographed steps and participating in political “spoofs,” even as an “extra.” Experience with song and dance and musical theater is helpful, but not necessary.

Students will be hired by February 15. Each internship will take approximately 15 hours per week, pay $12.00 per hour for undergraduate students and $15.00 per hour for graduate students, and $20.00 per hour for advanced graduate students, such as those with an undergraduate degree plus a J.D. Degree who are enrolled in an LLM in Taxation Degree program.

LL.M. in Taxation Student Citizen Team Coordinators will begin work between February 15 and March 15, depending on funding arrangements.
