WSBA Taxation Luncheon

All current students in the Tax Program are cordially invited to attend the Annual Luncheon meeting of the Washington State Bar Association's Taxation Section.

Date: Tuesday, May 14, from noon - 1:30 pm (check in begins at 11:30 am)
Location: Columbia Tower Club (75th floor of the Bank of America Tower, 701 Fifth Avenue)

This year's guest speaker will be our very own Professor Roland Hjorth, Dean Emeritus and Garvey Schubert Barer Professor of Law. His presentation speech is entitled:  “Tax Policy After Fiscal Cliffs, Sequesters and Debt Ceilings.”  For a number of years, Professor Hjorth has been teaching a class which examines the theoretical and policy considerations applied in assessing existing and proposed federal tax regimes, and considers their intended (and at times unintended) consequences arising with their application.  His speech will focus on the effects of “tax expenditures” and how they often result in unscrutinized, but overlapping, subsidies.

The Section will also elect new officers for 2013-2014.

If you would like to attend this event, email Allison at ablahna (at) uw.edu by Monday, May 6. Please indicate your choice of meal: Roasted Beef Tenderloin, Grilled Mahi Mahi, or Pecan Pesto Pasta (vegetarian), and include your WSBA number if you have one.

This event is always a good opportunity for connecting with other practicing tax attorneys in the Puget Sound region. Business attire is required, as the Columbia Tower Club has a dress code. You will be denied entrance to the club if you arrive in casual attire.
