Change to Exam Reschedule Policy

It has come to our attention that the exam rescheduling policy we have used in the Graduate Program in Taxation without incident for 15 years is inconsistent with the law school’s general policy on rescheduling. The Associate Dean for Academic Administration has informed us that students in the Tax Program must now follow the same procedure applicable to other law students.

This change will not affect most of you, since only a few of you each quarter request to reschedule an exam. Effective immediately, all requests to reschedule exams must be routed through the Academic Services office and not through the Tax Program office. All students are subject to the law school’s exam reschedule policy, which you can access at
here

I realize that this policy does not consider the fact that many of you are full-time practitioners with active and demanding practices. I suspect that the policy was crafted with only full-time students in mind, as full-time students comprise the vast majority of the law school population. I am hopeful that Academic Services and the Associate Dean for Academic Administration will keep this in mind in considering your requests. I intend to work with them to see what can be done to accommodate the legitimate needs of Tax Program students, but I would expect that implementation of any change to the policy would not take effect until winter quarter, at the earliest.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this announcement may cause. If you have questions about the law school’s policy, please direct them to Academic Services. Any complaints or suggestions for revisions to the policy can be directed to me, and I will make sure they are forwarded as appropriate.
