WSBA Tax Section Annual Luncheon


All current students in the Tax Program are cordially invited to attend the Annual Luncheon meeting of the Washington State Bar Association's Taxation Section. The luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 15, from 11:30 - 1:30 at the Columbia Tower Club (75th floor of the Bank of America Tower, 701 Fifth Avenue). This year's guest speaker will be Russ Brubaker, assistant director of interpretations and technical advice for the Washington Department of Revenue and the new president of the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board. His presentation will discuss recent developments surrounding the Marketplace Fairness Act and Marketplace Equity Act, and provide some insight on the state of Washington’s economic nexus rules


The $45 registration fee pays for everything, including tax and tip. Because we want to have a nice showing of Tax Program students at this event, the Tax Program will pay your $45 registration fee if you register with Ilse Allison by Wednesday, May 9. When you register with Ilse (ra7 (at) uw.edu) be sure to indicate your choice of meal: Roasted Beef Tenderloin, Grilled Mahi Mahi, or Pecan Pesto Pasta (vegetarian).


This event is always a good opportunity for connecting with other practicing tax attorneys in the Puget Sound region. Business attire is required, as the Columbia Tower Club has a dress code. You will be denied entrance to the club if you arrive in casual attire.

Save the Date for the 2012 Annual Taxation Luncheon and Election of Officers

The keynote speaker will be Russ Brubaker, assistant director of interpretations and technical advice for the Washington Department of Revenue and the new president of the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board, an organization representing the 24 states that have passed legislation adopting the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement. Federal legislation authorizing remote collection authority for Streamlined states and non-member states that meet minimum simplification requirements has been introduced in the form of the Marketplace Fairness Act and the Marketplace Equity Act. These bills have garnered the support of many major U.S. retailers, both online and those with a physical location. Mr. Brubaker will discuss developments around the federal bills and provide some insight on the state of Washington’s economic nexus rules.

The Graduate Program in Taxation will host 2-3 tables, depending on interest. We will post more information about this closer to the date.
