Northwest Justice Project - Home Justice Project Attorney Positions - Seattle/Tacoma, Yakima

The Northwest Justice Project (NJP) is a not-for-profit law firm whose mission is to secure justice through high quality legal advocacy that promotes the long-term well-being of low-income individuals, families and communities through legal representation, community partnerships, education and other advocacy. NJP seeks applications from qualified attorneys to undertake mission directed work statewide to mitigate the long-term effects of the foreclosure crisis.   

 
Three successful applicants will work together across legal and practice disciplines and have combined practice experience that includes:  significant civil litigation in areas related to consumer protection, foreclosure, fraud, finance, bankruptcy, housing, and/or areas of law that impact persons affected by home foreclosure; community based advocacy experience; and, experience with transactional/economic development related work for low-income communities.  Applicants must be culturally competent and have demonstrated experience working with low-income communities. Washington State Bar membership in good standing or ability to become a member through reciprocity is required.  Ability to speak a language prevalent in Washington’s low-income communities is a plus.  

  JOB DUTIES: The team of attorneys will undertake a range of duties including, but not limited to:

  • Work collaboratively with others to identify the most important problems that impact families and communities affected by foreclosure and the consequences of foreclosure.

·  Engage with the low-income client communities to devise and seek systemic solutions to adverse consequences within high-foreclosure communities, with particular focus on persons and groups that experience special barriers to accessing civil legal services, including veterans, immigrants, limited English speaking persons, seniors, and other groups.

  • Develop collaborative working relationships with a statewide network of advocates addressing similar and related issues throughout the state; participate in advocacy task forces or work groups to address systemic issues that arise in the post-foreclosure context.
  • Utilize NJP’s case management and timekeeping systems and comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and reporting needs.
  • Help identify and develop on-line resources for use by attorneys and/or unrepresented litigants on matters post-foreclosure consequences and related issues.
  • Support the work of NJP partners including the volunteer lawyers, private attorneys, other legal aid providers and interested parties and organizations addressing the legal needs of low-income persons on matters related to the consequences and adverse impacts of foreclosure.

 
These positions are time limited five year grant funded positions.  Salary depends on experience. NJP offers an attractive benefits package and a comfortable work environment.
