Job Summary:
Guidant Financial’s Operations Department is seeking a licensed attorney who has a demonstrated interest and experience in tax and ERISA matters. The attorney needs to have excellent academic, verbal and written communication skills. The attorney will also portray excellent customer service skills and works well in team environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
• The Assistant General Counsel (AGC) will work primarily with the organization’s recordkeeping department to ensure that Guidant’s clients operate their 401(k) plans in compliance of IRS and ERISA rules and regulations.
• Will provide legal support to the recordkeepers to address federal tax and ERISA issues on a daily basis.
• Review client’s file to ensure operation within our structure’s guidelines, ERISA and tax laws, and review recordkeeping annual reports and testing results along with the Form 5500 for accuracy.
• Draft certain 401(k) plan documents and amendments to the 401(k) plan as clients’ request.
• Maintain current knowledge and understanding on regulatory guidelines surrounding Guidant’s products and/or services
• Perform research on law or regulatory changes as they affect Guidant’s clients, products or services.
• Provide other legal duties and responsibilities as needed by Senior Counsel or Assistant General Counsel and the business
• Work with Guidant’s outside counsel on various client topics and/or corporate initiatives
• Support internal sales team and other teams within the organization

Experience/Education
Juris Doctorate degree plus a minimum of 2+ years experience with tax and/or ERISA law.

The candidate must be licensed and in good standing with a state bar association, preferably with the Washington State Bar Association.

Qualifications
• Experience with 401(k) plan non-discrimination testing, plan testing failures and corrections, and various IRS plan correction methods preferred.
• Must be able to multi-task and establish priorities for yourself and others based on workload and departmental needs
• Must be able to work well under pressure and be comfortable in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Computer proficiency with experience using the Microsoft Office applications.
• Must be meticulous and detail-oriented.
